Money I'm holding

Gwiza's one fee

Gwiza charges one fee, and only one: 0.5% of each payment made through Gwiza — a contribution paid on a collection's page, or a payout or return the treasurer sends from the app. It is paid by the organiser, never by the person giving, and it is taken by the licensed payment partner at the moment the payment is made. Nothing is charged until Gwiza is licensed.

What it is

  • 0.5% of the payment, with no cap. Rounded to the nearest franc. A small payment pays a little and a large one pays more; there is no ceiling and no minimum. Pay RWF 20,000 and the fee is RWF 100; pay RWF 1,000,000 and it is RWF 5,000.
  • Paid by the organiser. The treasurer who runs the collection bears the fee, and it appears on their statement as its own line — “Gwiza network fee”. A contributor pays exactly what they typed, and the book records what they gave in full.
  • Only on payments made through Gwiza. Money that arrives by *182# or any other way and is simply written in the book carries no fee. Gwiza charges for the payment it carries, not for the book it keeps.
  • Nothing from contributors, ever. Nobody who gives pays Gwiza anything, is asked for anything, or hears from Gwiza at all.

Two examples

PaymentFee (0.5%)What happens
A contribution of RWF 20,000RWF 100The giver pays RWF 20,000 and nothing more. The partner settles RWF 19,900 to the treasurer's MoMo and RWF 100 to Gwiza. The statement shows the contribution of RWF 20,000 and the fee of RWF 100 as its own line.
A payout of RWF 1,000,000RWF 5,000The payee receives the full RWF 1,000,000. The treasurer's account is debited RWF 1,005,000 in one prompt: the payout, and the fee to Gwiza.

How it is taken

By the licensed payment partner, in the same payment. When a payment is approved on the phone, the partner moves the money from one MoMo account to the other and settles the fee to Gwiza's own account in that same instruction. One prompt, one PIN, one confirmation SMS. Gwiza never receives, holds or moves the money itself: it instructs the partner and keeps the book.

So there is nothing to pay Gwiza separately — no number to send money to, no reference to type, nothing to confirm by hand. Nobody is ever asked to pay Gwiza by MoMo for a fundraiser. If anyone asks you to, it is not us: write to admin@gwizafintech.com.

When it starts

Today, nothing is charged. Gwiza is applying for its licence from the National Bank of Rwanda and is not yet licensed to initiate a payment, so paying through a collection's page is not open and no fee exists. When the licence is granted, payments open first with no fee at all — 100% to the treasurer. The fee starts only once the payment partner collects it at source, and from that day it shows on the treasurer's statement as its own line, at the rate on this page.

No other fee of any kind

  • No fundraiser fee at close. A fundraiser costs nothing to start and nothing when it closes. An earlier version of the app showed a fee due at close; it has been withdrawn and nothing is owed. If you already paid that fee from an earlier version, it stays recorded on your fundraiser as paid and nothing more is asked of you.
  • Nothing for pass-throughs. An errand (money to spend for someone) and safekeeping (money to hand back untouched) carry no fee of their own. Only a payment sent through Gwiza carries the same 0.5%, as any payment does.
  • No pass, no subscription, nothing for the book: the statement, batch filing and pledge lists are free for every treasurer.
  • Nothing deducted by Gwiza. Gwiza takes no share of what is collected and never has the money in its hands. The fee is settled by the partner, to Gwiza, as the organiser's own expense.

Questions

Is this a fee on contributions? The giver pays exactly what they typed — not a franc more. The fee is the organiser's, taken from their side of the payment by the partner and shown on their statement, so the person giving never pays Gwiza anything.

Does Gwiza receive the money I raise? Never. The partner moves each contribution from the giver's MoMo to the treasurer's; Gwiza's fee is settled to Gwiza's own account by the partner in the same instruction. Gwiza never holds, pools or moves a contribution.

Why does my statement show no fee? Because nothing is charged before Gwiza's licence and before the partner collects the fee at source. Payments logged from a MoMo SMS — made outside Gwiza — never carry one.
